The well-known Nashville-based American concert organist, church musician and admired teacher, Wilma Jensen, has signed for her 4th CD release to appear on the branded Pro Organ label. Previously, in 1999 and 2000, Wilma appeared as musical director and organist in two very popular Pro Organo CD releases which featured the choir, as well as instrumental and vocal soloists from her home church: St. George’s Episcopal Church in Nashville, Tennessee. These two CD titles, MUSIC AT ST. GEORGE’S and CHRISTMAS AT ST. GEORGE’S, remain as active titles in the Pro Organo catalog. In 2004, Wilma Jensen appeared in a solo organ album, entitled SKETCHES AND IMPROVISATIONS IN THE FRENCH TRADITION, which featured the organ music of Charles Tournemire, Alexander Russell and Louis Vierne on the Casavant organ of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Nashville.
In this new release, set to appear on February 1, 2017, entitled ORGAN PLUS WITH W J, we hear never-before-released recordings depicting highlights in Wilma Jensen’s performing long and noteworthy performing career, with most tracks depicting collaborative performances of organ in various combinations with vocalists and instrumentalists. The featured tracks in ORGAN PLUS WITH W J are her performance, with Philip Brunnelle conducting, of the Concerto for Organ, Harp and Strings by former Eastman School of Music Director Howard Hanson, and two improvised and transcribed works by the 20th-century French organ virtuoso improvisateur Pierre Cochereau. Select tracks from her MUSIC AT ST. GEORGE’S and CHRISTMAS AT ST. GEORGE’S albums are reprised to fill out the 70-plus minute new release. Pre-orders will be accepted at ProOrgano.com beginning on January 15, 2017.
