Choir of Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Newark, New Jersey USA

THE  CATHEDRAL CHOIR is composed of both professional and amateur singers. Its members represent all walks of life and a diversity of Christian religious traditions: Catholic and non-Catholic. Together they form a choral group that ministers through the art of music at the Solemn Mass at Noon each Sunday as well as many other religious events and concerts that take place at the Cathedral. The music program at Sacred Heart strives to actively preserve the rich heritage of music entrusted to the Church, as well as explore new directions in music for worship befitting the spirit and dignity of the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. DAVID E. FEDOR is Director of Music and Organist for the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Newark, New Jersey, a position he has held since 1986. He is responsible for the entire liturgical program, providing music for nearly 300 religious services each year. In addition, he is director of “Music in the Cathedral,” an annual series of concerts begun in 1968. He received his B.A. and M.Div. degrees from the Rochester Center for Theological Studies in Rochester, New York. His musical training has been through private instructors, the Eastman School of Music, and the University of Notre Dame where he received additional graduate degrees in music and liturgical studies. His organ instructors include Sue Seid-Martin and J. Melvin Butler. He has appeared on the East coast as an organ recitalist and as organist for the former Cathedral Symphony Orchestra. He has given workshops in the area of music and worship for numerous organizations and dioceses in the United States, and has been a contributor to Pastoral Music Magazine, the Journal of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, of which he is an active member. During the summers of 1980-1985, he was visiting instructor for the Church Music Seminar Program at the Eastman School of Music. Recently he was elected to the steering committee of the National Conference of Roman Catholic Cathedral Musicians.
