This bio was current as of the release date of Pro Organo CD 7048 in 1999: In 1996, Matt Curlee became the sixth American and one of the youngest organists ever to win the prestigious Grand Prix de Chartres competition in France. Matt is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music where he studied with David Higgs, Gerre Hancock and Douglas Humpherys. His vigorous performing schedule takes him to dozens of churches, cathedrals, and concert halls throughout North America and Europe. He has been listed in the International Who’s Who in Music and Musicians, and in the fall of 1998, was a finalist in the Calgary International Organ Competition. Matt lives with his wife, Alisa, in Rochester, New York, where he is active as both a performer and teacher. He is an Administrator at the Hochstein Music School and pursues an interest in jazz on the side.
