The Artist (This biographical sketch was current as of the original release date of the recording in 1999.) Scott Dettra maintains an active career as an organist, accompanist, and recording artist. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, he studied music at an early age, beginning piano at age three, organ when he was eight, and holding his first church position at the age of nine. He received the BM and MM degrees from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, both with honors. Mr. Dettra is Principal Accompanist of the renowned American Boychoir, with whom he appears in over one hundred performances annually in all parts of the world. As a choral accompanist, he has played for such distinguished conductors as Abbado, Flummerfelt, Macal, Masur, and Previn. A frequent recitalist, he has performed on major instruments on three continents and was awarded third prize at the 1996 Dublin Inter-national Organ Playing Competition. In addition to numerous recording credits, Mr. Dettra’s performances have been broadcast several times on the BBC and NPR. His principal organ teachers have been Joan Lippincott, Dennis Keene, and his father, Lee Dettra.
