American Record Guide “Dobey’s performances are sensitive and imaginative. Even in a constantly churning piece like the prelude on Hanover, his flexibility and rubato help bring to life a piece that can easily become a mechanical grind. Dobey takes some liberties with registration, often soloing out lines that are not so designated in the score. This, of course, is an interpreter’s prerogative.” – Gatens

Organ Alternatives Dobey resists the frequent temptation to become overly dramatic. In sum, Dobey’s playing is confident and totally convincing, the work of a mature artist and the result of many years of immersion in the style. – Dr William Renwick

The Diapason Dobey brings a depth of emotive character which reaches a complete and true melancholy in Parry’s contemplative works …, yet he exhibits the stereotypical outgoing, extroverted, bolt upright English style in the “Wanderer,” the “G Major Fantasia and Fugue”, “St. Ann’s” and “Old 100th.” … The thick writing often tends to obscure inner lines, as well as the cantus, or leading, melodic line. … Mr. Dobey seems to have cleverly re-written certain passages of the score, with a line here and there soloed-out …. How he did this in this recording without having grown a third hand is a mystery I should kindly ask him … – Bernard Durman
