John Ayer directs the Memphis Boychoir and Memphis Chamber Choir

John Ayer, founding director of the Memphis Boychoir and Memphis Chamber Choir, offers a program that illustrates the connection between ancient chorale tunes and the manner which composers have elaborated and embellished the chorale melodies over the centuries in the form of organ chorale-preludes.  The Memphis Boychoir and Chamber Choir sing the chorales under John Ayer’s direction.  John Ayer performs the related organ works on two excellent organs by organ-builder Nichols & Simpson.  The organ at Christ Episcopal Church is heard in Volume 1 in tracks 1, 3, 8, 9, 12, 17, 18, 20, 21, 24, 26 and 29.  The organ at Hendrix College, Conway, Arkansas is heard in Volume 1 in tracks 5, 6, 11, 14, 15, and 23.
